If you are a beginner, the instructor will take you through your first painting step-by-step.  If you have taken this course before, you will learn additional techniques and develop your own style while using the subjects of your choice.  Students will also get the benefit of color theory instruction as it relates to their paintings. Many experienced painters in this class now practice Joyce's original knife painting technique, and new students are welcome to experiment with this impressionistic style if they wish. The Art of Mixing Color PA07

This class is an extensive look at color theory based on the book The Elements of Color by Johannes Itten. Students will have the opportunity to complete 5 project boards over 6 weeks covering topics that include color accuracy, light/dark contrast, complimentary contrast, cool/warm contrast, saturation, etc.  There will be ongoing discussions on how the importance of this major component of creating art is utilized for maximum benefit in painting through purpose and design. Upon completion, students will have gained much knowledge of how to choose, mix and manipulate color to greatly improve their paintings.
